Handcrafted rugs designed and made by Gyllian Thomson.

How a rug is made

The backing is stretched onto a frame and the design drawn straight onto the backing. The tufting gun fires the yarn into the backing canvas. Colours are matched with the design and are blended to achieve the correct tone, much like the process in the making of a tapestry.

Once the rug is completed natural latex is applied to the back to secure the pile. Then the secondary backing is glued to the back. The rug is cut from the frame for shearing. Finally natural cotton binding is used to finish off the edges.

My rugs are 100% British wool, hand dyed to my specification.

Individual rugs vary as each is handmade. Prices vary too from piece to piece depending on the design and the degree of detail and pattern.

Parcel Force free UK delivery.

All my rugs are designed by myself, but colours can be changed to suit. To discuss a custom-made order please use the contact form.

Sizes range from 60cms x 90cms, 120cms x 210cms, 150cms x 180cms approximately.
